Ms. Etsuko Takano

Etsuko Takano, general manager of Iwanami Hall, a prestigious Tokyo movie theater in Jinbocho, Tokyo, passed away on February 9 at a Tokyo hospital. She was 83.

Ms. Takano was General Producer of the Tokyo International Women’s Film Festival since 1985, when it was founded concurrently with the first TIFF. She brought down the curtain on the final TIWFF in 2012. She also was a member of the jury for the natural TIFF section in 2008, 2009, and 2010.

We extend our sincere condolences for the loss of one of Japan’s most passionate supporters of film.
