The 8th annual Asian Film Awards (AFA) announced the winners on March 27, 2014. The award ceremony was taken place at the renowned Dancing Water Theater in Macau by the AFA’s newly established organization, the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFA Academy) consisting of three major international film festivals in Asia, the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), the Busan International Film Festival and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
Two Japanese actresses, Hirona Yamazaki who served the Festival Navigator at the 26 TIFF and Fuka Koshiba who stars in “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (2014) came up on the stage with Hong Kong film director Stanley Tong (“Police Story 3”, “Rumble in the Bronx”) as presenters, appealed Japanese cinema and announce the Best Visual Effects winner.
Including Best Film and Best Director, “The Grandmaster” directed by Wong Kar-wai won in seven categories, and Shigeru Umebayashi from Japan also won the Best Composer award with Nathaniel Mechaly for their work in “The Grandmaster.”
The 8th AFA appreciated all the participants from all over Asia, congratulated the winners of this year and completed with great success.
